What are the serious consequences of asthma?

What are the serious consequences of asthma?
What are the serious consequences of asthma?
1. Acute complication

(1) Sudden death: It is the most serious complication of bronchial asthma, because there are often no obvious aura symptoms. Once it happens suddenly, it is often too late to rescue;

(2) Pulmonary infection: According to statistics, about half of asthma is induced by upper respiratory tract infection, and it is easy to secondary lung infection due to interference of immune function of respiratory tract;

(3) Water and electrolytes and acid-base imbalance: due to asthma attacks, patients with hypoxia, inadequate feeding, dehydration, often complicated by water and electrolytes and acid-base imbalance, these are important factors affecting the efficacy and prognosis of asthma;

(4) Pneumothorax and mediastinal emphysema: due to asthma, the gas is trapped in the alveoli, causing excessive alveolar gas and increased intrapulmonary pressure, which may cause the pulmonary vesicle to rupture and form a pneumothorax;

(5) Respiratory failure: severe asthma insufficiency, infection, pneumothorax, etc., are all causes of asthma complicated with respiratory failure, and in the case of respiratory failure, treatment is more difficult;

(6) Multiple organ failure: Severe asthma is often complicated by other organ dysfunction or even exhaustion.

2. Long term complications

(1) dysplasia and thoracic deformity: childhood asthma, often cause dysplasia and thoracic deformity, the factors are multi-faceted, such as malnutrition, hypoxemia, endocrine disorders, etc.;

(2) Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, chronic pulmonary heart disease: long-term, repeated asthma attacks, eventually leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, and finally lead to pulmonary heart disease.
